Patient Access Representative

• Perform insurance verification and authorization functions that support Patient Access Services
• Ensure compliance with department standards and billing requirements
• Complete authorization initiation requests with payers for all service lines
• Validate existing authorizations requested by providers
• Provides necessary information regarding authorization numbers and patient demographic information to appropriate staff
• Responds to "provider orders" for tests and procedures
• Obtains authorizations for visits required by various payers

• Ensures patient safety by identifying the correct patient
• Provides assistance and services to patients and families in the registration, admission, and scheduling processes
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information
• Completes and authenticates necessary documents for compliance
• Supports the Revenue Cycle and Health Information Management through accurate data entry

• Meets with patient or patient's caregiver to exchange necessary information and documentation
• Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions
• Communicates with unit staff and other appropriate personnel to exchange necessary information and determine placement
• Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays deductibles, and coinsurance, or refers to financial counselors for follow up
• Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy
