Attorney

• The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) will be involved in investigating and prosecuting criminal conduct related to expanded gaming in the Commonwealth.
• Handle a District Court caseload and lead and coordinate investigations and prosecutions with the Massachusetts State Police and Springfield Police.
• Additional duties will include screening potential cases, fostering relationships with industry stakeholders, participating in trainings, and working cohesively with others in the Attorney General’s Office.

Assistant Attorney General – Gaming Enforcement Division

• The Assistant Attorney General will work closely with the GVPU Director to advance the Unit’s mission, with a primary focus on enforcement-related investigations and litigation
• Screening and developing new matters aligned with GVPU enforcement priorities
• Investigating potential violations of Massachusetts gun laws and related consumer protection or regulatory provisions
• Building litigation-ready factual records and coordinating evidence-gathering with law enforcement and agency partners
• Drafting and litigating enforcement matters in state and federal court, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and hearings/trial preparation
• Negotiating and enforcing settlements and other compliance resolutions, as appropriate
• Coordinating with internal AGO teams and external partners (including law enforcement agencies, District Attorneys, and relevant state agencies) to advance GVPU enforcement efforts
• Supporting cross-state and multi-party matters, including multi-state investigations or coordinated actions with other Attorneys General, as appropriate
• Supporting legislative and policy initiatives, including legal research, analysis, and drafting
• Engaging with community stakeholders as needed, including through developing and implementing communications strategies

Assistant Attorney General – Gun Violence Prevention Unit

Financial Planning and Analysis

• Supports investigations and litigations, with a special focus on federal and private student loans and for-profit schools.
• Works with the Student Loan Ombudsman, Student Loan Advocate Attorneys, and Assistant Attorneys General to analyze data and documents, including National Student Loan Data System files, loan payment and status histories, qualifying payment count adjustments for Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Income-Driven Repayment plans, amortization schedules, interest accruals, interest capitalizations, and federal student loan interest subsidies.
• Analyzes loan servicer data, school data, regulatory changes, and servicer contract performance standards.
• Works directly with student loan borrowers to navigate more complex student loan repayment, debt relief, and default resolution complaints.
• Supports other IFSD investigations, outreach, litigation, and settlement implementation for other matters as needed.

Student Loan Analyst

Paralegal

• Assist in the investigation and litigation of civil enforcement cases.
• Work with investigators, interview witnesses, and review documents.
• Compile evidence and assist attorneys with all aspects of case responsibilities.
• Fact gathering, trial preparation, translation, and data analysis.
• Attend depositions and organize/maintain files.
• Review exhibits and help monitor or administer settlements and post-judgment relief.

Paralegal – Consumer Protection Division

• Assist a group of attorneys focusing on consumer/investor protection issues in cryptocurrency and analogous financial services transactions
• Provide administrative and investigative support for attorneys focusing on cryptocurrency, nonfungible tokens, payment processing, account access protocols, and virtual-wallet storage
• Assist with settlement implementations, mediations, and consumer outreach
• Assist IFSD lawyers in ongoing litigation and related investigations
• Assist with preparation of court filings and subpoenas
• Conduct fact-finding and liaise between the Office and other regulators/third parties from the cryptocurrency industry
• Organize and review discovery materials
• Perform research
• Manage and review files
• Enter case information into databases
• Engage in extensive communication with settlement beneficiaries, witnesses, experts, and others by mail, electronic mail, and telephone
• Assist in the drafting of various memoranda, consumer advisories, and reports
• Input data into Excel and perform sorts and searches of this data

Cryptocurrency, Financial Services Paralegal

• Independently, and as part of a team, take part in litigation and investigations surrounding data security, data privacy, and online or digital abuses
• Advance case progress through depositions, motion practice, and document productions
• Duties also include learning new industries and technologies, investigating and identifying practices that may violate the law, collaborating with other state and federal enforcement entities, and negotiating resolutions that serve the public interest

Assistant Attorney General – Privacy & Responsible Technology

Analyst

• Conduct and manage complex research across division subject areas, including analysis of telephone and location data to identify criminal plotting and conspiracy.
• Analyze aggregate datasets and develop methodologies to determine root causes, patterns, and opportunities to improve public safety and generate investigative leads.
• Use data collection software to compile and assess information received from partner enforcement reports and anonymous reports.
• Conduct preliminary vetting of incoming tips and intelligence.
• Solicit user participation in contributing information to various intelligence databases.
• Collaborate with law enforcement officials and Assistant Attorneys General to identify gaps in existing criminal investigation and intelligence, to collect raw data, and to evaluate and support case progress.
• Prepare, summarize, and present investigative findings.
• Communicate and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies on deconfliction matters.
• Perform additional duties as assigned in support of Bureau objectives and needs.

Criminal Analyst

• The Assistant Attorney General will represent the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in investigations and litigation before state and federal courts.
• Will be responsible for handling a substantial number of matters involving the enforcement of state and federal antitrust laws.
• Cases will cover a broad range of industries and will often pose complex and cutting-edge legal and economic issues.
• In addition to handling their own cases, the Assistant Attorney General will work with other attorneys, including, in some cases, attorneys from other states across the country and attorneys with the United States Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
• The Assistant Attorney General may be involved in policy development, including drafting or reviewing proposed legislation.
