Developer Relations

• Own large chunks of the production lifecycle of our video output, from identifying topics worth a developer’s time to scripting, recording, editing, publishing, and measuring impact.
• Explain nuanced technical concepts directly to developers, writing demos or examples.
• Refine and evolve Tailscale’s video strategy, formats, and voice.
• Represent Tailscale publicly through conference talks and in-person events as a steward of the brand.

Developer Advocate – Video

Developer Advocate, Video

• You’ll be expected to own large chunks of the production lifecycle of our video output, from identifying which topics are worth a developer’s time to scripting, recording, editing, publishing, and measuring impact.
• Strong judgment is essential.
• You will know what deserves depth, what should be left out, and how to explain complex technical ideas without oversimplifying or skipping the hard parts.
• This role requires shipping consistently, with an expectation of producing high-quality videos on a regular, fast-paced cadence.
• This is a hands-on, on-camera role.
• You should be comfortable explaining nuanced technical concepts directly to developers, writing your own demos or examples where appropriate, and maintaining a calm, credible presence that builds trust over time.
• Initially, you’ll step into our established YouTube presence as part of our Developer Relations team, and over time, you’ll help refine and evolve Tailscale’s video strategy, formats, and voice.
• You’ll also represent Tailscale publicly through conference talks and in-person events as a steward of the brand.

Backend Engineer

• Develop the Tailscale product, contributing to both open source client code and related backend services.
• Take ownership of the entire product lifecycle, from writing code to product ideation and strategic decision-making.
• Work closely with UX/UI designers and product managers to shape features.
• Work as part of a team of engineers to design, build, test, and document core software components.
• Develop product features in areas that include our control plane, our relay infrastructure, and our identity integrations.
• Exhibit ownership over the running services that comprise Tailscale’s product by building for observability, participating in incident response, and fielding customer support escalations.

Backend Engineer, Control Plane

Security Engineer

• Improve the security properties of Tailscale by identifying opportunities for security and privacy features, bug fixes, and defense-in-depth, and implementing them across our codebase.
• Audit Tailscale features for technical security weaknesses, identifying mitigations or solutions, and driving them towards resolution.
• Support engineering decisions with threat modeling and security analysis and expertise.
• You will spend at least 50% of your time in this role writing software vs purely operational or governance security responsibilities.

Security Software Engineer

Infrastructure Engineer

• Design and build security controls across diverse layers (e.g., cloud platforms, OS, Kubernetes, networks, CI/CD) to defend against sophisticated adversaries and insider threats.
• Improve the security properties of Tailscale by identifying opportunities for security and privacy features, bug fixes, defense-in-depth, and implementing them across our codebase.
• Audit Tailscale infrastructure for technical security weaknesses, identifying mitigations or solutions, and driving them towards resolution.
• Support engineering decisions with threat modeling and security analysis and expertise.
• You will spend 25-50% of your time in this role writing software vs purely operational or governance security responsibilities.

Security Infrastructure Engineer

Community Manager

• Partner with the Sr. Community Manager to support and coordinate the community meetup program.
• Onboard and support local organizers, helping them navigate program guidelines and expectations.
• Coordinate logistics such as venues, food, vendors, speakers, and local partnerships.
• Surface relevant content themes, resources, and best practices to help organizers deliver high-quality events.
• Build and manage event infrastructure, including Luma pages, invite lists, feedback forms, and post-event follow-ups.
• Attend, support, or help run meetups and community events, with travel expected as part of the role.
• Partner cross-functionally with GTM, Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to support community programs that align with broader go-to-market initiatives.
• Support the implementation of community-led projects and contribution opportunities.
• Coordinate with contributors to support timelines, communication, and logistics.
• Manage swag fulfillment and contributor recognition.
• Support the application of an existing community sponsorship framework across universities and grassroots groups.
• Vet inbound sponsorship opportunities and coordinate with internal partners when escalation or review is needed.
• Partner with content and marketing teams to help amplify sponsorships through blogs, case studies, or community highlights.
• Partner with the Sr. Community Manager to support the formalization and delivery of the startup program.
• Help integrate startup-focused initiatives into existing community activations.
• Assist with launching and supporting new opportunities such as a Discord channel, webinar series, or founder-focused events.
• Provide operational support for the Insiders advocacy program as an additional point of contact.
• Track participation, contributions, and engagement.
• Support logistics such as CFP submissions, travel coordination, and event preparation when Insiders are speaking on behalf of Tailscale.
• Engage directly with community members on platforms such as Discord and Reddit.
• Monitor conversations and surface recurring themes, feedback, and insights back to internal teams.
• Help maintain consistent feedback loops between the community and the broader organization.

Solutions Engineer

• Partner with AEs to identify, qualify, and close new Commercial customer opportunities.
• Lead technical discovery, solution architecture, demos, and POCs to accelerate decision-making.
• Guide complex multi-stakeholder deals, aligning technical and business objectives.
