About the role

  • Oversees all aspects of occupational safety management at assigned Sunbelt Rentals branches; implementation and adherence of safety policies and programs
  • Conducts PC safety compliance inspections and audits using dedicated criteria including employee training, facility regulatory compliance, vehicle fleet/DOT compliance, shop and equipment rental fleet compliance
  • Provides training and guidance to Safety Coordinators to ensure a consistent approach to policies and procedures
  • Identifies deficiencies, provides evaluation with corrective action requirements; assists Branch Manager & Service Manager in mandating corrective actions
  • Assists Branch Safety Coordinator with required training, safety meeting coordination, and maintenance of Safety Training & Documentation Manual
  • Responsible for tracking and trending Regions and Branches to identify adherence to Leading Indicator Program
  • Works with VP and Regional Managers to develop annual SH&E Business Plan and targets; leads monthly Safety Coordinator calls and coordinates Boot Camp
  • Supports PCM and Safety Coordinator in incident investigation and reporting requirements; supports claims managers
  • Participates in PC monthly safety meetings and Safety Stand Down events

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of 5 years working with Safety, Health and Environmental Management Systems and implementation of safety programs
  • Preferred Safety Certification - OHST, CHST, SMS, GSP
  • Good written and verbal skills when addressing individuals or groups
  • Ability to present information in classroom or conference call settings
  • Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan with measurable goals based on leading and lagging indicators
  • Positive attitude and ability to track and trend performance of multiple locations
  • Dependable, motivated, and self-starter
  • Ability to multi-task and be highly organized
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Ability and willingness to travel; overnight travel required
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction and general industry regulation knowledge
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety
  • Ability to foster credibility with PC Supervisors, Safety Coordinators, and PCMs
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Up to 50% travel required
