About the role
- Develop a strong safety culture within the engineering group
- Assist in resource management processes, recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, and leadership development across the discipline
- Interface with key clients regularly and pursue work with new clients
- Support Business Development functions through proposal development and conference requirements
- Develop training plans and coordinate resources across the Underground Mining Engineering Team
- Occupy a leadership role in implementing key strategic initiatives supporting the Mining Business Line’s vision and goals
- Champion Creativity and Innovation and Research and Development initiatives relevant to Mining
- Contribute to engineering within the business center and assist with developing the annual business plan and budget related to Mining Engineering
- Ensure the department maintains consistency and efficiency in execution of work and deliverables
- Ensure deliverables meet or exceed quality requirements
- Coach and mentor direct reports to foster accountability, mutual respect and technical excellence
- Actively manage performance and conduct annual performance reviews of direct reports
- Develop and implement a technical resource deployment process with Business and Project Management
- Develop annual plans for the engineering group with specific goals, initiatives and measurable KPIs
- Assist in identifying/defining project scopes, key deliverables and execution planning to identify project specific technical resource needs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or other related field
- 15 years minimum of underground experience in the profession of Mining Engineering
- 3-5 years in a Leadership position
- Licensed Professional Engineer will be considered a plus
- Strong knowledge, interpretation, and application of underground mining standards and best practices
- Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production
- Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems
- Thorough understanding of underground mining engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others
- Strong consulting skills including ability to act as main point of contact to various stakeholders
- Proven mentoring skills and desire to work with and encourage staff
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and a proven ability to write clear, thorough technical reports
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple jobs/projects
- Proven problem-solving skills
