Accountant

• Perplexity is looking for an experienced Senior Revenue Accountant to join our small team revolutionizing the way people search and interact with the internet. The Finance and Accounting team at Perplexity is playing a critical role in defining and driving strategic and financial processes across the company and is looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual who can prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be working closely with the Revenue Accounting Manager to build out our revenue accounting processes and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Responsibilities: Own the revenue-related month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely recognition of subscription and usage revenue in accordance with ASC 606. Review customer contracts, partner agreements, and non-standard terms to determine appropriate revenue treatment and document accounting conclusions. Prepare and reconcile revenue-related schedules, including deferred revenue, contract assets/liabilities, and partnership referral/reseller fees. Oversee the accuracy of customer billing, invoicing, and payment application across subscription and enterprise accounts. Collaborate with Growth, Legal, and Product to evaluate new pricing models, referral arrangements, and new products for accounting implications. Work cross-functionally with the likes of Legal and Data teams to obtain pertinent documentation and data to support business initiatives. Assist with the ongoing Netsuite implementation with regard to data accuracy and data migration, customization of workflows, automation of monthly processes and post-migration system testing/UAT. Support the audit preparation process including compiling supporting documentation, reconciliations and schedules, and delivering requests in a timely manner.
• Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA or equivalent certification is preferred but not required. 5+ years of combined experience in public accounting and in a corporate revenue accounting role. Hands-on experience with subscription billing systems (e.g., Stripe, Zone Billing, Orb) and ERP platforms (NetSuite preferred). Strong knowledge of US GAAP, specifically ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition) and ASC 340-40 (Contract Costs). Experience with SQL or strong desire to learn. Excellent communication skills, as frequent interaction with both internal and external stakeholders will be required. Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with NetSuite software preferred.

Senior Revenue Accountant

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with US GAAP.
• Assist with the timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports; provide detailed explanations for fluctuations in financial results.
• Identify opportunities and implement processes to streamline and automate accounting processes, improving efficiency and accuracy.
• Work closely with other departments to obtain necessary financial data and support business initiatives.
• Assist with identifying and implementing efficiencies and process improvements through automation and customization of accounting processes to support the companys rapid growth in a scalable manner.
• Support the audit preparation process, including compiling supporting documentation, reconciliations and schedules, and delivering requests in a timely manner.
• Assist with tax return preparation, compliance, and audits.

Senior Accountant

Research Engineer

• Perplexity is seeking an experienced Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help build the next generation of advanced search technologies, with a focus on retrieval and ranking.
• Responsibilities: Relentlessly push search quality forward — through models, data, tools, or any other leverage available
• Architect and build core components of the search platform and model stack
• Design, train, and optimize large-scale deep learning models using frameworks like PyTorch, leveraging distributed training (e.g., PyTorch Distributed, DeepSpeed, FSDP) and hardware acceleration, with a focus on retrieval and ranking models
• Conduct advanced research in representation learning, including contrastive learning, multilingual, and multimodal modeling for search and retrieval
• Deploy models — from boosting algorithms to LLMs — in a scalable and performant way
• Build and optimize RAG pipelines for grounding and answer generation
• Collaborate with Data, AI, Infrastructure, and Product teams to ensure fast and high-quality delivery
• Qualifications: Deep understanding of search and retrieval systems, including quality evaluation principles and metrics
• Proven track record with large-scale search or recommender systems
• Strong proficiency with PyTorch, including experience in distributed training techniques and performance optimization for large models
• Expertise in representation learning, including contrastive learning and embedding space alignment for multilingual and multimodal applications
• Strong publication record in AI/ML conferences or workshops (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, CVPR, SIGIR)
• Self-driven, with a strong sense of ownership and execution
• Minimum of 3 years (preferably 5+) working on search, recommender systems, or closely related research areas
