Underwriter

• Oversee the underwriting process for group benefits products, such as group health, life, disability, and other related coverages.
• Ensure that all applications are evaluated and analyzed using underwriting guidelines, policies, and principles to ensure profitability and competitiveness of the block as a whole
• Work with team to evaluate the risk associated with group insurance applications.
• Review and analyze group data, claims history, medical information, and other relevant factors to determine appropriate coverage levels and premium rates.
• Collaborate with carriers to set competitive and sustainable premium rates for group benefit plans based on the underwriting assessments and risk analysis.
• Drive continuous process improvement initiatives within the underwriting group to enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer experience.
• Work with the VP, Underwriting, Group Solutions to set team goals and objectives to align with the Underwriting department
• Collaborate with sales and account management teams to provide underwriting support during client presentations and meetings; address inquiries from clients, brokers, and other stakeholders regarding underwriting decisions and processes
• Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to monitor underwriting performance, trends, and key metrics.
• Generate reports for senior management and other stakeholders to inform strategic decision-making
• Hold team accountable to deliver on objectives by meeting or exceeding individual goals
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the group insurance space
• Conduct regular training sessions for the Underwriting team on product knowledge and industry expertise to support their development, performance and career progression

Underwriting Manager

Human Resources

• Act as a strategic business partner to senior business leaders of each client segment to support the design, build and execution of client segment people strategies that drive business performance and assist with employee engagement/retention.
• Consult with business leaders on a wide range of HR best practice, programs and activities including, but not limited to, employee relations, performance management, succession planning, organizational design, employee development, and culture.
• Empower and coach client segment leaders through specifically designed programs, to utilize diverse leadership techniques to deliver people led strategies: performance management/talent evaluation, conflict resolution, team building, employee development, roles and responsibility, individual and team accountability, resource planning, and others.
• Ensure all HR processes are well-organized and adhered to, including frequent reviews, year-end processes, and KPI development.
• Work with HR peers to ensure HR processes are fast, responsive, effective and well planned to meet client segment needs through clearly articulated processes with defined response & resolution measures.
• Oversee successful implementation of significant PC HR transformation projects, including compensation systems and human resource information systems, within client segment.
• Take a lead role in the execution of HR integration activities related to unique journey maps for both new and legacy acquisitions within client segments.
• Participate on behalf of the client segment in the development of, and approve periodic updates to organization-wide policies, procedures, and manuals, and develop sound practices to ensure such practices are consistently followed.
• Provide pro-active human resources legal and legislative compliance leadership through expertise and extensive up to date knowledge and guide business leaders through a complex rapidly changing legislative environment.
• Provide support on the research, design, and development of HR initiatives in support of advancing HR effectiveness and organizational development activities by using expert knowledge of business requirements.

• Assessing the client’s individual insurance needs (exposure identification) and obtaining quotes from insurers
• Using professional knowledge and expertise to assist clients in obtaining personal quotes from insurers
• Using professional knowledge and expertise to assist clients in obtaining personal and/or commercial insurance based on assessed needs
• Treating all clients in a fair, professional, and friendly manner
• Provide professional insurance advice and guidance, including, but not limited to, advising on coverage options available in the marketplace
• Ensuring that available discounts the client qualifies for are applied
• Responding to client inquiries promptly via telephone and/or email (whichever the client prefers)
• Completing any client requests such as, but not limited to, policy changes, contacting 3rd parties to confirm coverage (i.e., lawyers, financial institutions, dealerships, etc.), and handling payment requests
• Gather any information requested by insurers, and correspond with insurers in a friendly and professional manner
• Act on clients’ behalf to ensure claims are handled quickly and fairly (acting as the client’s claims advocate) when it becomes necessary

• Provide day-to-day operational HR support in a fast-paced environment, addressing employee and leader inquiries across multiple priorities and channels.
• Manage and triage the English and French HR Support inboxes, escalating issues to HR Business Partners or other departments as required.
• Deliver clear guidance on HR policies, leaves of absence, and general inquiries, ensuring consistent and accurate support across the organization.
• Respond to data and documentation requests from Legal and HR Business Advisory teams, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
• Support the Workday user community by resolving access issues, directing users to digital self-service tools, and escalating technical questions as needed.

• Coordinate and facilitate HR onboarding activities including preparing offer and employment letters, delivering virtual onboarding sessions, and tracking new hire documentation.
