About the role

Serve as the primary legal partner for OpenAI’s business transactions, partnerships, and operations in APAC
Lead commercial legal support for OpenAI across APAC and negotiate high-impact agreements
Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to teams including Sales, Partnerships, Finance, Procurement, Product, Infrastructure, and Engineering
Identify and address commercial, product, regulatory, privacy, and other legal issues arising from APAC commercial transactions
Develop strategies and processes for handling legal issues in creative and scalable ways to support growth
Monitor and advise on APAC-specific regulatory and compliance matters affecting AI and technology
Collaborate with colleagues across OpenAI’s global legal team to ensure alignment across jurisdictions
Shape OpenAI’s commercial legal presence in the APAC region

15+ years of experience across in-house and technology-focused law firm roles
Experience as a commercial attorney and comfortable operating as a first hire in-region (entrepreneurial, proactive, independent)
Strong background in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts
Deep knowledge of APAC legal frameworks and cross-border contracting
Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to Sales, Partnerships, Finance, Procurement, Product, Infrastructure, and Engineering
Experience identifying and addressing commercial, product, regulatory, privacy, and other legal issues in APAC commercial transactions
Ability to develop strategies and scalable processes to support growth
Strong communication skills, business judgment, and ability to build cross-functional relationships
Strong sense of ownership, intellectual curiosity, and enthusiasm for technology
Demonstrated sound judgment in ambiguous or fast-changing situations
Based in Singapore or willing to relocate (relocation support available)
