About the role
- Responsible for development and maintenance of CAD/CAM/Simulation system, CLC methodology CNC programs, tooling, and processes
- Develop and maintain product/systems to support manufacturing and business needs
- Initiate improvements in product/systems and automate processes to improve product safety, quality, schedule, performance and reduce costs
- Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing and field service operations
- Utilize CAD/CAM/graphic simulation and optimization tools (CATIA, ProEngineer, Solidworx, MasterCam, Esprit, Siemens NX, Vericut)
- Gather information, compute calculations, simulate and prepare layouts and sketches to present design proposals
- Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups
- Generate manufacturing process, CNC programs, simulate in virtual environments and develop close loop systems requiring simultaneous axis profiling
- Troubleshoot CNC programming and tooling problems on virtual environments and production floors for new and mature product lines
- Develop and maintain set-up process sheets and partner with Manufacturing Engineers on production support
- Serve as in-house expert on CAD/CAM/Simulation software and provide training to staff
- Work with Engineering to ensure utilization of company CAD/CAM/Simulation systems, including development of post-processors and machine digital twins
- Implement changes in tooling and CNC programs as dictated by engineering drawing changes and document them through process control systems
- Lead improvements in CNC programming techniques and recommend acquisitions/upgrades of CNC programming and simulation tools
- Conduct tool design reviews, participate with tooling engineers and suppliers, and may conduct machine run-offs
- Provide technical assistance to purchasing personnel and suppliers
- Identify opportunities and lead improvement initiatives and Lean Sigma projects
- Conduct print reviews with R&D and propose changes to ensure manufacturability and inspection methods
- Train shop employees and other programmers on new tooling, CNC programs, close loop corrections, and manufacturing methods
- Travel as required up to 25%
- In-person exchanges required; working a minimum of 4 days a week onsite to foster collaboration
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree (required) OR Master’s Degree (2+ years experience) OR PhD
- 4+ years of Engineering experience in a high tech manufacturing environment providing direct manufacturing process support (or Masters +2 years, PhD alternative)
- Experience with CAD/CAM/Simulation software (examples listed: CATIA, ProEngineer, Solidworx, MasterCam, Esprit, Siemens NX, Vericut)
- CNC programming experience, including manual programming and CAD/CAM/Simulation Technology
- Macro programming may be required in some instances
- Experience generating manufacturing process and CNC programs and simulating them in virtual environments
- Tooling design and fixture creation experience
- Troubleshooting moderate to highly complex CNC programming and tooling problems
- Experience completing Lean Sigma projects and process improvements
- Ability to train shop employees and other Programmers on tooling introductions, CNC programs, and manufacturing processes
- Ability to travel up to 25% / "Ability to travel as needed"
- CAM simulation experience
- Nice to have: Medical device industry experience

- Must be able to interact with computers and communicate with peers and co-workers (office role physical/interaction requirements)
