About the role
- Drive ongoing payroll and payroll tax operational activities and identify best practices to enhance efficiency
- Perform internal audits and analyze employee-level tax data; determine if adjustments are needed and enter adjustments when necessary
- Review escalated employee tax cases, determine action, and provide customer service to resolve employee questions and meet SLAs
- Work with third party payroll tax processor (ADP SmartCompliance) to maintain accurate account information
- Reconcile tax information between Workday Payroll and ADP to ensure employee and company data accuracy
- Enter and review employee tax data in Workday and perform payroll tax audits to ensure correct set-up and withholdings
- Research compliance issues, IRS, state and local laws and provide recommendations to ensure compliance and change internal processes
- Collaborate with other teams on new tax initiatives and establish best practices
- Lead Payroll Tax Operations through Month-End, Quarter-End and Year-End tasks and projects
- Respond to external and internal audit requests and address audit findings
- Onboard acquired companies and employees and manage related payroll tax integration
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of payroll tax experience or Workday payroll experience
- OR Advanced degree with minimum of 2 years' experience
- Nice to have: Bachelor's degree with 2+ years payroll tax or payroll experience; or an advanced degree
- ADP SmartCompliance experience
- Strong preference for Workday payroll tax experience
- Experience with payroll tax operational activities, employee-level tax data analysis, and reconciliations between Workday and ADP
- Experience performing payroll tax audits and entering adjustments in Workday
- Ability to research IRS, state and local tax laws and recommend compliance changes
- Experience onboarding acquired companies and employees
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and resolve employee tax questions
- Regular ability to interact with computer systems and communicate with peers and co-workers
- Ability to perform month-end, quarter-end and year-end payroll tax tasks and projects
