About the role
- Call on adult dairy animal owners to evaluate existing feeding programs and recommend/assist with nutritional programs
- Sell Purina products and programs at the farm gate with the end goal of growing sales and market share
- Conduct up to 25 farm calls per week, develop new prospects, and cold call to generate sales
- Organize and conduct educational meetings/events for 4H clubs, saddle clubs, vets, trainers, and lifestyle show clubs to enhance brand and build store traffic
- Consult with cooperative/dealer to optimize market share, savings, and operational efficiency
- Perform on-farm walkthroughs and animal evaluations in all weather conditions
- Use MS Office, HerdSmart ration balancing software, and Salesforce as part of sales and recommendation processes
- Travel overnight (~15%) and perform daily travel within the assigned geographic territory
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
- Report and collaborate with partner co-op/dealer to achieve cooperative/dealer mission and goals
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field strongly desired (pending bachelor’s degree or proven sales/industry experience may be considered)
- Previous sales experience highly desired
- Basic command of making nutritional and feeding recommendations to Dairy animal owners
- Understanding of Dairy husbandry, current management practices, and nutritional guidelines
- Work/life experience in management and care of dairy animals
- Competent in providing accurate feeding and management recommendations
- Strong computer skills, specifically MS Office
- Ability to be trained on ration balancing software (HerdSmart) and Salesforce
- Strong background and previous professional experience with Cattle or Dairy
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability and drive to make multiple daily sales calls (up to 25 farm calls per week)
- On-farm interaction in all weather types and ability to perform animal evaluations
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Solid public speaking skills
- Ability to network in the industry and organize educational meetings/events
- Willingness to travel: ~15% overnight plus daily travel in assigned geography
