About the role
- Configure and test network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls) and radio communications hardware (base stations, antennas, DAS)
- Configure network protocols (IP addressing, routing protocols) and radio protocols (LMR and wideband)
- Perform and be accountable for verification and validation activities starting in the factory until system hand over
- Perform site surveys on railroad property to lay out basic equipment
- Supervise installations of Fiber Optic Cabling Systems and data communications systems
- Test Network, radio and fiber systems and conduct network performance tests
- Troubleshoot network and radio equipment, identifying and resolving connectivity issues or radio signal interference
- Create checklists and reports including system configuration, test results and any identified issues
- Travel up to 75% and work from Pittsburgh, PA base
Requirements
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience working with medium/complex networks and in radio deployment
- Working Knowledge of network design patterns, constraints and protocols (networking certification preferred)
- Working knowledge of Switching and Routing protocols
- Working knowledge of wireless communications in demanding scenarios
- Excellent ability to use test equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and a spectrum analyzer
- Working knowledge of Test and commissioning processes
- Skilled in handling electric, electronic, and mechanical drawings and schematics
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to communicate complex technical information
- System integration experience ensuring seamless integration between network and radio systems
- Radio Frequency/Telecommunications Qualifications or University Degree
- From 2 to 5 years of Railway System Engineering and Commissioning expertise
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related discipline OR equivalent technical experience
- Willingness to travel up to 75%
