About the role
- Supervise monthly close activities and prepare/oversee income, balance sheet, consolidated statements, and other reports
- Organize and schedule resources required to accomplish accounting activities
- Review and analyze contracts to ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance with internal policies
- Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting standards (ASC 606)
- Analyze and reconcile financial information and general ledger accounts
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial meetings to discuss and review financial data/reports
- Prepare and analyze forecasts and projections
- Assist with maintenance and application of internal controls (SOX)
- Train, conduct evaluations, and manage productivity of accounting employees
- Ensure appropriate approvals for business expenses
- Review and verify accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Accounting or Business Administration
- 5 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement)
- Preferred: public accounting experience
- Preferred: energy industry experience
- CPA preferred
- Understanding of U.S. GAAP
- Knowledge of revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Knowledge of internal controls (SOX)
- General accounting, accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable knowledge may be required
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to lead and mentor and manage productivity of employees
- Ability to review and analyze contracts for proper accounting treatment
- Must be authorized to work in the US
- Must be local to the Houston area (no relocations for this role)
- Supervise direct reports (direct supervision of 2 full-time employees)
