Responsible for serving as the company's principal state government affairs advocate and will represent the company's position on legislation to elected representatives, officials, and staff in regulatory agencies and the executive branch for an assigned geographic area or region
Develop and maintain strong external relationships with state and local policymakers, industry groups, and patient and professional organizations within a specified geographic area or region
All engagement shall be conducted in compliance with our code of conduct and all applicable state and local lobbying laws and regulations
Implement strategies and tactics to shape and influence state policies through a combination of direct lobbying and legislative coalition-building
Participate in political fundraising events and the company's PAC activity
Lead project initiatives and facilitate collaboration with a team of legislative and alliance development consultants and lobbyists to provide direction on approaches and deliver results
Develop relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including industry groups, companies, think tanks, business trade associations, and patient/provider groups, to advance the company's agenda
Represent the company at key state/national stakeholder meetings and engage with key external partners to identify opportunities for collaboration to advance common policy priorities
Work closely with various internal business units to provide strategic counsel, including providing regular updates, conducting briefings, presenting at internal meetings, and staffing senior leadership during state engagements
Collaborate with the internal cross-functional advocacy team to execute on the strategic and tactical plan and identify opportunities for engagement with external partners in a constantly changing environment
Requirements
Master’s or Juris Doctorate degree preferred
Eight years of experience working within state government, government affairs/advocacy, health policy, or relevant industry experience
Optical industry and managed vision care experience preferred
Experience engaging with stakeholders and navigating political relationships to drive policy agendas
Ability to move quickly and navigate multiple projects over short and long-time horizons
Intuitive understanding of the intersection between policy and business strategy/outcomes
Business acumen, including a keen understanding of legislative and regulatory processes and impacts on business units
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex policy issues to diverse audiences
Excellent judgement regarding strategic policy priorities, taking into consideration the political and communications landscape
Ability to work independently as well as with a team, and able to produce timely, high-quality work with limited supervision
Ability to travel up to 40% required
Role expected to cover Texas and contiguous states, including Missouri
