About the role
- Launch and build the Urban Outdoors initiative combining conservation, community building, and climate resilience in Massachusetts’ urban neighborhoods
- Collaboratively establish programs and partnerships, represent The Trustees in community spaces, and lay groundwork for trust-based engagement
- Coordinate management and delivery of Urban Outdoors programs, events, and engagement activities; handle timelines, logistics, and communications across teams and external collaborators
- Facilitate planning meetings and working groups, support community listening sessions, and steward shared decision-making
- Provide limited technical assistance to community partners to translate conservation goals into community-informed priorities and pilot efforts
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with community partners, residents, grassroots organizations, and local leaders for inclusive planning and co-design
- Track and manage program deliverables and project timelines; support operational follow-through and reporting on milestones
- Represent The Trustees in public/community settings including meetings, convenings, tabling events, and speaking engagements
- Contribute to learning and evaluation by tracking participation data, capturing stakeholder feedback, and measuring program outcomes
- Identify gaps and barriers to nature access in urban communities and help develop responsive solutions through cross-functional coordination
- Collaborate across departments to ensure programs and events reflect equity, accessibility, and cultural relevance
- Report to the Regional Vice President for Boston & Urban Outdoors and work closely with Boston team and statewide colleagues; frequent evening and weekend work required
Requirements
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience, in a related field/discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships across lines of difference—including culture, language, power, and sector
- Experience coordinating or supporting programs related to community engagement, climate justice, conservation, youth development, or social equity
- Strong facilitation and interpersonal communication skills
- Capacity to manage logistics, track multiple workstreams, and support program implementation across organizations
- Analytical ability to gather and work with data to inform activities and assess program outcomes
- Preferred: Multilingual candidates and lived experience in BIPOC, immigrant, or environmental justice communities
- Preferred: Familiarity with GIS tools, demographic reports, environmental science, urban policy, or population and climate trends
- Preferred: Experience providing or receiving technical assistance in nonprofit, public agency, or advocacy setting
- Preferred: Familiarity with local, state, or federal programs supporting equitable land use, community development, or climate adaptation
- Current authorization to work in the United States (required by first day)
- A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check
- A higher education degree in a relevant field OR comparable combination of education, training, and lived experience
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, and environmental justice
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly across Greater Boston and surrounding urban centers (own means, mileage reimbursed)
