About the role
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in substation protection and control systems
- Sequence outages for future projects based on system conditions, current schedules, and project priorities
- Review protection schemes and project scopes to determine sequencing of control work (wiring, protection, SCADA)
- Communicate project sequencing plans with Director of Transmission, Director of Operations, O&M crews, capital construction crews, commissioning engineering, and other project groups
- Review engineering IFC packages and compare control design to relay settings and issued SCADA points lists
- Assist commissioning engineering team with test plan creation, lab testing, field work, and compliance documentation
- Provide technical support in pre-commissioning field activities, including phone and on-site support
- Provide training and guidance to customer's construction personnel and Shermco staff on identifying potential hazards and best practices
- Collaborate closely with customer’s construction management and Shermco’s pre-commissioning and commissioning teams
- Report to P&C Area Manager
Requirements
- Engineer with 5+ years of experience; PE registration preferred
- Experience with group presentations or training sessions
- Experience with relay settings philosophies, protection schemes, and outage coordination
- Experience writing isolation plans
- Experience sequencing control wiring and protection schemes in brownfield substations with an outage sequence
- Experience sequencing SCADA points lists and RTU cutovers in brownfield substations with an outage sequence
- Experience performing and demonstrating practices necessary to interface with live CT/PT circuits, live DC circuits, and in-service relaying
- Proficiency in working directly with the customer
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations
- Should be able to pass a fit-for-duty physical exam when required
- Pass pre-employment drug test, and periodic unannounced drug tests
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check with 7-year history
- Have a valid driver’s license and meet minimum motor vehicle insurability standards
- Take and pass 30-hour OSHA training
- Ability to work in a field environment subject to changing outdoor conditions
- Work overtime as needed and willingness to travel extensively to client work locations
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
