Design for components and assemblies that is clear, accurate, complete, conforms to internal standards, procedures, specifications.
Design new products and processes, and improves and maintains existing products.
Investigates pertinent design factors such as cost, ease of manufacture, tolerancing, availability and compatibility of materials and equipment, interchangeability, maintainability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements.
Work collaboratively in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) consisting of various disciplines including Engineering, Operations, and Quality to achieve optimal design solutions.
Create 3D product models, outlines, and layouts.
Support product design reviews and coordinate work with project, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
Strict adherence to the design process is mandatory for successful realization of Collins product for our demanding customers.
Ensure accuracy of Clearance Envelopes, Assembly Removal studies, and Fit Checks for correct fit and alignment.
Create assemblies and manage the Bill of Materials review.
Support Engineering, Drafting, and Design standard work policy and procedure initiatives.
Responsible for the interface design and definition requirements for Production and Development projects.
Be focal point for all drawing/CAD model related issues identified by the Procurement, Enterprise Sourcing and the supply base.
Do producibility review to see if any additional changes need to be done to the drawing and incorporate them.
Lead junior level employees in the completion of component drawings, structural analysis, and designs.
Check drawings for accuracy, correct GD&T, and compliance to the aerospace industry and Collin’s drafting and manufacturing standards.
Supports AS9100 certification initiatives and compliance efforts.
Design and documentation of mechanical components, with a focus on aircraft installation and integration.
Requirements
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Must be able to travel 50% of the time to US based sites, for the first 6-months of the assignment.
After that time, must be able to travel as needed.
Position requires senior level Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing knowledge.
Extensive knowledge of the ASME Y14.5–2009, ASME Y14.41-2012, and the ASME Y14.5.1M-1994 is needed.
Must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.
