About the role

Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of complex systems and networks for scalability, security, and performance
Take ownership of system architecture decisions, guiding long-term infrastructure strategy and roadmaps
Act as a technical authority during critical incidents: diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues under pressure
Drive automation across infrastructure to eliminate manual tasks and improve reliability
Establish and enforce system hardening, compliance standards, and security best practices (NIST, CIS, OWASP)
Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence
Partner with stakeholders to align infrastructure capabilities with business requirements
Evaluate and introduce new technologies that enhance system performance and resilience
Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure
Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure
Ensure system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners

7+ years of proven experience as a Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar senior-level role
BSc/MSc degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field will be considered a plus
Deep expertise with Linux systems (performance tuning, security hardening, kernel-level troubleshooting)
Strong experience with VMware virtualization (design, optimization, and troubleshooting at scale)
Hands-on knowledge of automation tools (Ansible)
Track record of building highly available and resilient infrastructures
Strong understanding of networking protocols, storage systems, and distributed architectures
Proficiency in incident management and root cause analysis of complex system failures
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience mentoring teams
Fluent English (both written and spoken)
Experience in working with secure code development guidelines and coding practices (i.e. OWASP, NIST)
Strong attention to detail and customer service orientation
Pro-activeness, accountability and results orientation
