About the role
- Own and optimize clinician payroll end-to-end for OpenLoop’s clinician workforce
- Manage the full payroll cycle across multiple states, ensuring timesheets, hours, and rate data are accurate and processed on time
- Perform regular audits to catch discrepancies, troubleshoot root causes, and implement preventative fixes
- Serve as the primary contact for clinician pay questions, providing clear, empathetic, and timely resolutions
- Process rate changes, pay increases, bonuses, and other adjustments accurately and communicate changes
- Create and maintain dashboards and reports that surface payroll trends, cost drivers, and workforce patterns
- Partner with Product, Finance, and People Ops to improve payroll workflows and reduce manual processes
- Keep payroll processes aligned with multi-state labor laws, tax requirements, and classification rules (W-2 and 1099)
- Recommend and implement changes that make payroll more transparent, predictable, and painless for clinicians
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- 4+ years payroll experience (multi-state preferred), ideally in healthcare or a contractor/contingent workforce environment
- Track record of accuracy, problem-solving, and process improvement
- Comfortable with payroll systems (Rippling, Quickbooks, or similar) and advanced spreadsheets
- Strong communicator — able to explain complex pay issues with compassion and precision to the clinician workforce
- Startup mindset: resourceful, hands-on, and always looking for ways to do it better
- Detail-oriented: keen eye for detail and spotting trends and issues through the payroll process and cycle
