Backend Engineer

• Responsible for design, development and maintenance of our Content Distribution System. Work closely with the Product Owner and peers from the development team.
• Follow software development procedures and report directly to the Sr. Manager of Software Development.
• Write, edit, and debug software in Java.
• Respond promptly and professionally to bugs reported by QA.
• Ability to conduct system analysis independently to keep our systems current with changing technologies.
• Analyze system specifications and break down requirements to well defined development tasks.
• Test new code thoroughly to ensure logic is correct, and that program results are accurate
• Document code consistently throughout the development process.
• Provide assistance to testers and support personnel as needed to determine system problems.
• Participate in code deployments to QA and production systems.
• Identify and respond appropriately to production problems.
• Join the developer “on-call” rotation after approximately 3 months.
• Participate in disaster recovery site readiness and testing
• Participate in daily stand-ups and other scrum activities (e.g. backlog grooming, planning, demos and retrospectives).

Java Software Engineer, Distribution

Operations

• Lead the development of reports, dashboards and visualizations that provide actionable data for NPR’s Individual and Institutional Giving teams
• Establish consistent frameworks to track and report on individual and team revenue generation, activity performance, and key metrics
• Analyze donor segments across all giving levels to provide the Major ($25K+), Leadership ($1K+), and Planned Giving teams with data-driven insights to prioritize future gift opportunities
• Partner with the Senior Research Manager to develop portfolio analytics and reporting that drive effective moves management
• Support leadership with updates on metrics and strategic insights for division-wide presentation or NPR board meetings
• Work closely with fellow Donor Operations Specialist and provide additional project support and coverage as needed
• Oversee the development of donor lists and provide assessment for specialized cross-divisional projects as needed
• Execute routine reports and lists in Salesforce; help identify and address operational challenges; and participate in short-term projects to help enhance system usage
• Provide training and support standardization and adoption of reporting tools across teams
• Liaise between technical and non-technical stakeholders to establish the best practices, procedures, recommend actionable items to improve Salesforce hygiene, and resolve any barriers to the success of the project
• Develop a comprehensive data audit suite of reports to proactively detect anomalies, ensure data hygiene, and maintain the integrity of the donor database
• Document appropriate team Salesforce usage, processes, and workflows
• Ensure data quality by following, establishing, and regularly updating quality assurance protocols, processes, and documentation
• Support technical projects to enhance system usage and address functional gaps within the CRM

Donor Operations Specialist

Business Analyst

• Collaborate with other members of the Audience Insights team to support and disseminate learnings from deep analysis for NPR’s text, audio, and visual content performance across digital platforms
• Keep a pulse on and bring industry knowledge to contextualize insights and identify emerging trends
• Lead analysis and insights for the newsroom to uncover trends and best practices in key areas that influence NPR and Member station content and distribution strategy
• Build strong working relationships with editorial colleagues to collaboratively define analytics priorities and communicate actionable content and distribution insights
• Train reporters, producers, and editors on how to incorporate data and analytics from centralized reporting dashboards in their daily decision-making
• Deliver daily analytics briefings to inform editorial priorities for written, audio, and visual content
• Help NPR further deepen the relationships with its audiences based on understanding what is engaging with readers and listeners
• Collaborate with the Managing Editor in the newsroom to align goals and priorities across Audience Insights and the newsroom
