About the role
- Day-to-day responsibility for advising on a wide variety of legal matters relating to Monzo Europe’s activities in Ireland and abroad
- Act as a trusted legal advisor to the European development team and partner with EU Risk & Compliance and the wider Monzo legal team
- Keep up to date on regulatory developments and work with stakeholders on changes
- Advise on legal risk, identify mitigants and feed local expertise into the consolidated group regulatory strategy
- Lead on a wide range of legal matters, including operational resilience, AI, competition, consumer credit and multi-market scoping
- Develop and implement processes and procedures to increase efficiency and scalability of the European Legal function
- Deliver training, share insights and help educate others on legal developments
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel and optimise legal spend on regulatory matters
- Report to the European General Counsel & Company Secretary
Requirements
- Experience providing legal advice in Ireland and/or wider Europe
- Minimum of around 5 years relevant post-qualification experience (or equivalent)
- Genuine interest in consumer finance
- Experience advising on consumer credit and operational resilience
- Experience managing legal projects across different jurisdictions
- Ability to advise on legal risk, identify mitigants, and recommend balanced solutions
- Strategic thinker, strong communicator and keen problem solver
- Comfortable operating at all levels of the organisation up to Executive
- Willingness to handle wide range of financial regulatory legal issues and engage external counsel cost-effectively
- Enjoy horizon scanning, proactively assessing risks and implementing mitigations
- Dynamic and entrepreneurial approach; comfortable with ambiguity
- Passionate about banking and technology; open and curious mindset
- Additional desirable experience: artificial intelligence, competition, interchange fee regulation
