Manages and leads all engineering activities related to electrical substations during proposal, design and construction stages of multiple projects.
Provides project oversight, including managing engineering scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines and Project Management group on large or complex projects.
Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet client requirements and company expectations.
Oversees design activities of team members and reviews project drawings, calculations & specifications; assumes responsible charge as needed.
Provides strategic direction, leadership and technical services oversight for employees to achieve performance goals.
Coaches, trains and develops technical engineering staff; facilitates team meetings and manages resource planning.
Performs individual performance reviews, training and professional development for team members.
Plans workload for direct reports and collaborates with other leaders on group project resource planning; supports hiring efforts.
Participates in business development: partners with Sales, supports proposal efforts, and manages client relationships.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent is required.
CFIA or equivalent registration is required or the ability to obtain licensure within 1 year is preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) registration will be a plus.
A minimum of 6 years of engineering experience in the design and construction of Power projects with an emphasis on electrical substations is strongly preferred.
Good knowledge or understanding of electrical substations including high voltage equipment, Protection and Control systems, Physical Substation, Grounding, Lightning protection, general services, etc.
Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
Strong analytic and information management skills.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and public and external agencies.
High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
Excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills.
Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
Must have authorization to work permanently in Costa Rica.
