About the role
- Leverage product design and systems thinking to form and advocate for a clear Design POV for a newly formed ELA team
- Create end-to-end design artifacts across customer journey mapping, wireframing, low-to-high fidelity mockups, and rapid prototyping to test hypotheses
- Partner with Product Management, Engineering, User Research, Content, and Partnerships to iterate on existing products and design new experiences
- Integrate generative AI features into new experiences that support ELA teacher Jobs-to-be-Done
- Drive the design side of projects with strong project management, fast iteration, and clear communication of validated rationale
- Join and contribute to cross-functional group that maintains design systems; propose changes and review others' work
- Build alignment across diverse teams by presenting ideas to stakeholders across Khan Academy
- Mentor, coach, and develop Design team members and cross-functional partners
- Write about, present, and share learnings internally and with the wider Design community via blog and industry events
Requirements
- 10+ years of relevant experience on an in-house product design team
- Outstanding interaction design, prototyping, and information architecture skills
- Strong visual design chops
- Ability to juggle ambiguous and broad problems/opportunities along with smaller well-defined projects
- Critical participant in design reviews (giving and soliciting feedback)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical partners
- Comfortable in ambiguous, dynamic, startup-like environments and interacting with Senior Leadership
- Scrappy, bias toward action, and love moving fast
- Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and bring stakeholders into the conversation
- Lean approach to product design: rapid learning and shipping, concise value-focused experiences
- Ideally: prior understanding of English Language Arts education and/or experience designing for complex, user-facing content experiences
