About the role

  • Assists Senior Electrical Engineer in consulting with customer to determine functional and spatial requirements of new electrical systems for new structures or renovations, and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, and equipment.
  • Assists with layout of project and integrates electrical engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.
  • Performs lighting calculations and layout designs using both manual calculations and Visual Lighting Computational software.
  • Performs energy analysis, power density and life cycle cost analysis for system selection and LEED credit calculation.
  • Performs calculations and sizing of power distribution systems.
  • Evaluates and designs industrial grounding and lightning protection systems.
  • Designs and layouts Building Communications, Signal and Fire Alarm systems.
  • Assists Senior Electrical Engineer in the evaluation of submittals from Electrical Subcontractors and evaluating scope of work.
  • Prepares scale drawings and contract documents for building contractors; prepares construction documents.
  • Conducts periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with plans.
  • Prepares studies and reports; prepares project designs and plans using computer assisted design software and equipment.
  • Drafting using AutoCAD 2007; AutoCAD 2008 MEP and Revit MEP a plus.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Gray internships are open to students legally authorized to work in the U.S. that do not need current and/or future visa sponsorship or work status authorization for employment.
  • Drafting using AutoCAD 2007; AutoCAD 2008 MEP and Revit MEP a plus.
  • Performs lighting calculations and layout designs using both manual calculations and Visual Lighting Computational software.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical power systems, life safety systems and lighting.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Ability to perform energy analysis, power density and life cycle cost analysis for system selection and LEED credit calculation.
  • Ability to perform calculations and sizing of power distribution systems.
  • Ability to evaluate and design industrial grounding and lightning protection systems.
  • Ability to design and layout Building Communications, Signal and Fire Alarm systems.
  • Ability to assist in evaluation of submittals and scope of work from Electrical Subcontractors.
  • Ability to prepare scale drawings, contract documents, construction documents, and conduct periodic on-site observation of work during construction.
  • Ability to prepare studies and reports and project designs using computer assisted design software and equipment.
  • Candidate is expected to be available for Summer 2026 internship and work from Lexington, KY office.
