About the role
- Identify, assign, edit, and publish news for Front Office Sports covering the business of sports.
- Work with reporters and editors to ideate fresh angles and develop stories.
- Edit copy quickly and cleanly; craft headlines and framing.
- Manage time to handle breaking news and edit longer-term stories and weekend features.
- Collaborate with the daily flagship newsletter, The Memo.
- Coordinate with social and multimedia teams on story framing and video ideas.
- Represent the newsroom on social media by sharing stories.
- Take news edits in off-hours when possible; protect FOS's quality and credibility as a journalistic outlet.
- Report to the Editorial Director of News (who reports to the Editor in Chief).
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in an editorial role, preferably in sports and/or business news.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and editorial tools.
- In-depth knowledge of sports industry trends, news cycles, and audience engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute content strategies that drive engagement and audience growth.
- Team-player and player-coach attitude.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with sports media, specifically sports television programming and the companies and networks that air sports programming.
- Willingness to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule (West Coast preferred).
