About the role
- Create and implement engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to improve business performance
- Ensure engineering strategies and processes meet business objectives and operational needs (price, quality, delivery)
- Ensure strong communication between squads to deliver consistent user experiences across the tribe
- Input and hold responsibility for engineering budgets
- Provide clear leadership and vision; inspire and motivate teams; set achievable goals
- Mentor and coach Team Leads to be exceptional squad leads and track performance regularly
- Oversee the quality of delivery, processes and lead the product engineering tribe (5-6 teams, 30+ engineers)
- Delegate effectively and set standards/priorities in collaboration with the CTO & VP of Engineering
- Review and change processes as the company and team scale; make decisions as required
Requirements
- Experience leading a large, high-achieving engineering function, including building and scaling teams
- Strong leadership skills
- Experience working within a start-up or scale-up, ideally in a consumer brand
- Experience with event-driven architectures
- Strong understanding of relational databases
- Extensive knowledge of engineering practices and principles and problem-solving methods
- Experience building mission-critical systems
- Experience with multiple programming languages
- Creative thinking and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to interact with people across the business and effectively influence upwards
- Experience mentoring & coaching Team Leads and managing teams
- Happy to roll sleeves up and assist the team when required (team player)
- Self-starter and proactive approach
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Willingness to work from the Warsaw office four days per week (remote Wednesday)
