About the role
- Lead engineering for Duolingo’s Long-form Learning Area, overseeing development of new long-form formats and evolution of products like DuoRadio, Stories, and the Learning Path
- Supervise teams under the Long-form Learning Area to drive strategies and roadmap
- Develop and manage other managers and mentor technical leaders
- Balance ambitious 0->1 product innovations, iterative improvements, and engineering excellence work
- Provide guidance on scalable, high-quality system design and technical decisions
- Collaborate with product managers, learning scientists, designers, and other stakeholders
Requirements
- Experience developing and leading software engineering teams and setting technical direction
- Consistent track record managing managers and mentoring technical leaders
- Extensive experience in rapid-growth, consumer-facing, data-driven companies
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced, and unstructured settings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
