About the role
- Month End & General Ledger: Partner with Controller to manage daily accounting operations, with a focus on GL integrity, accounts payable, and timely financial close.
- Coordinate the corporate close process, targeting a 5-business-day close with minimal post-close adjustments.
- Ensure monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts with timely investigation of discrepancies and maintenance of audit-ready documentation.
- Own the accrual playbook (e.g., payroll, bonus, rebates, and other recurring estimates) with clear documentation and justification.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
- Payables, Vendors, & Credit Cards: Oversee weekly vendor payments, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and optimization of payment terms.
- Administer vendor master controls, including W-9 collection, onboarding/verification of new vendors, and 1099 reporting.
- Oversee monthly corporate credit card reconciliations, ensuring timely coding and submission.
- Support AR and AP aging clean-up efforts.
- Policy, Controls, & Process Improvement: Maintain and update the accounting policy manual and SOP library to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and audit requirements.
- Partner with IT and cross-functional teams to implement process or system improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Identify and address emerging risks while driving continuous improvements in accounting processes.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting: Prepare and present financial analysis to leadership, including variance explanations, trend analysis, and margin monitoring.
- Explore opportunities to increase real-time reporting through enhanced system imports and automation.
- Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and develop a team of 1-2 direct reports, providing training, guidance, and growth opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment.
- Provide back-up support for payroll processing, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum five to seven years progressive accounting experience required.
- Proven ability to lead and develop accounting staff with varying skill levels.
- Confident communicator with clear, concise writing and verbal presentation skills.
- Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and practical application of accounting principles in a business setting.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends, explain variances, and support business decisions through data.
- Highly organized and capable of juggling multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal oversight.
- Naturally detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and process integrity.
- Proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and following through on execution.
- Skilled in building relationships across departments and supporting cross-functional initiatives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Google Suite products, and accounting software (ERP experience preferred)
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
