About the role
- Manage the timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly and monthly payrolls for Canada, US, and various international locations in partnership with local in-country payroll providers
- Confirm accuracy of employee data (new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, salary changes)
- Prepare monthly payroll journal entries and reconciliations in collaboration with Finance
- Ensure compliance with local labor, tax, and statutory regulations, including year-end reporting (T4s, W-2s, EHT, etc.)
- Stay current on global employment and tax law changes and ensure best practices are adopted
- Prepare and file required reports and/or payments to government agencies
- Support ad hoc reporting, reconciliations, and internal/external audits
- Resolve escalations promptly, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable fixes
- Act as the superuser for Ceridian Dayforce HRIS/payroll system, troubleshooting issues and leading enhancements
- Partner with the People & Culture team to integrate payroll with HRIS and financial systems, driving automation and improved data integrity
- Continuously assess and refine payroll processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and employee experience
- Identify automation opportunities, leveraging emerging technologies and AI tools to lead payroll process enhancements
- Participate in cross-functional corporate projects with payroll implications, including M&A integrations and system implementations
- Act as a subject matter expert in payroll, advising Finance, People & Culture, and Legal teams
- Streamline and enhance payroll policies, procedures, and operating methods
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing payroll team, set objectives, and lead execution of team deliverables
- Foster an effective team environment and mentor junior members
Requirements
- Deep understanding of Canadian and US payroll with proven experience managing payroll across multiple global jurisdictions
- Ability to navigate complexity, analyze issues using critical thinking, and resolve problems with diplomacy and tact
- Strategic mindset with operational excellence
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain payroll concepts to all levels of the organization
- Intermediate Excel skills
- Exceptional business analysis, data management, and analytic skills with high attention to detail
- Strong experience administering global payroll using HRIS/payroll systems, such as Ceridian Dayforce and/or ADP Global
- Strong experience leading and coaching payroll teams
- Proven ability to create effective working relationships cross-functionally across the company
- Certifications such as PCP, CPM, or Global Payroll Management Certificate is a strong asset
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance or related area of focus
- Candidates must be located in the Eastern Time Zone
