About the role
- Design, develop, edit, and update written content, including FAQs, guides, web copy, printed materials, and scripts for beneficiary communications.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate program policies, procedures, and complex information into clear, accessible beneficiary content.
- Ensure all content is accurate, consistent, and adheres to SSA policies, style guides, and branding standards.
- Perform regular reviews and audits of existing materials to identify content gaps and areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with Help Line and program management teams to address beneficiary feedback and emerging information needs.
- Support the development and revision of training materials and job aids for both beneficiaries and program staff.
- Ensure all published content meets Section 508 accessibility requirements and best practices for inclusive design.
- Monitor content performance metrics and collect feedback to inform updates and future content development.
- Maintain version control and proper documentation of all content updates and revisions.
- Assist with content migration and system updates as needed, coordinating with IT and web development teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience in content design, technical writing, communications, or a related field, OR
- High school diploma/GED with 6–8 years directly related experience in content development, communications, or equivalent roles.
- Experience writing, editing, and designing informational content for public or customer audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to work with staff at various levels and across disciplines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with demonstrated attention to clarity and detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with content management systems and web publishing tools preferred.
- Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards and experience creating accessible content a plus.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects.
- Experience in quality control, version management, and best practices in documentation.
