About the role
- Lead permitting efforts, including federal injection permits and state-level air approvals, to get operations approved.
- Build and maintain relationships with EPA, state regulators, and local agencies; manage stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor shifting regulations, flag potential issues, and develop plans to mitigate regulatory risk.
- Coordinate and align technical work with Operations and Policy teams; ensure cross-team collaboration and execution.
- Propose regulatory or policy changes when current regulations don't accommodate the science; work with policy team to implement.
- Travel 20–30% initially for on-site permitting and stakeholder work, tapering to <20% thereafter.
Requirements
- 4+ years navigating regulatory or advocacy roles in a regulated industry or government agency.
- Experience in environmental permitting, ideally with experience in Underground Injection Control (UIC) or air permitting.
- Familiarity with both legislative processes and regulatory policy.
- Experience managing relationships across federal, regional, and state regulators and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to brief C-suite and state regulatory boards.
- Ability to bring clarity to complexity and move others to action; strategist, diplomat, and tactician.
- Passion for startup environments; comfortable with shifting priorities and ambiguity.
- Bonus: Legal background or direct UIC permitting experience.
