About the role
- Manage VAT compliance across the group, including timely and accurate submission of VAT returns and managing the VAT group structure
- Maintain and develop the bank’s Partial Exemption Special Method (PESM), including calculations, analysis, and liaison with HMRC
- Provide clear, commercial VAT advice on transactions, new products, contracts, and operational changes
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting VAT and assess their impact on the bank
- Support the Senior Tax Manager and Financial Control team with ad hoc projects, systems implementations, process improvements, and internal controls
- Liaise with external advisors and HMRC and build constructive, transparent relationships
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Compliance, and Product teams on cross-functional projects
Requirements
- Qualified accountant or tax advisor (e.g. ACA / CTA or equivalent)
- Trained in a Big 4 or top-tier tax advisory firm
- Strong experience in VAT/indirect tax
- Solid understanding of UK VAT rules, particularly financial services
- Exposure to partial exemption and VAT group structures
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment and dealing with ambiguity
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex VAT issues to non-specialists
- Must already reside in the UK; sponsorship may not be available
