Software Engineer

• Own and evolve the Product & Engineering portfolio processes, ensuring they remain simple and effective as the department grows in size and complexity
• Lead and coach a small team of Delivery and Programme Managers, leveraging them to oversee high-complexity or commercially critical initiatives that require specialized cross-team coordination
• Stay on top of Engineering capacity, providing data-backed insights to help mitigate risks, make trade offs decisions and seek future investment
• Measure and optimize the end-to-end Product Life Cycle to reduce cycle time and accelerate time-to-market, ensuring every initiative and milestone delivers measurable value impact.
• Proactively map complex dependencies and capacity plan, mitigating cross-team or cross-departmental dependencies that threaten roadmap commitments
• Facilitate operational portfolio meetings, ensuring everyone is always aligned with commercial OKRs and making data-backed decisions on what to start, stop, or pivot
• Support R&D leadership with business casing and scenario modelling for budget cycles, and partner with finance to ensure we’re making impactful resourcing decisions (e.g. staff capitalisation)
• Support autonomous teams in ensuring their initiatives are sufficiently granular and timely to provide iterative value-unlocks
• Identify systemic bottlenecks across the Product & Engineering ecosystem and work with leadership to implement interventions to increase throughput and quality
• Build and own the reporting systems that provide visibility on commitments without introducing burdensome manual processes for teams

Head of Portfolio – Product & Engineering

Product Manager

• Define and develop the product vision, strategy and roadmap for FEPS SaaS products.
• Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and threats.
• Prioritise product features and improvements based on business impact, customer feedback, and market dynamics.
• Communicate the product strategy and roadmap to stakeholders across the organisation.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to translate product requirements into technical specifications.
• Manage the product backlog, ensuring that features are well-defined and prioritised for development.
• Oversee the product development lifecycle, from concept through to release, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
• Manage user acceptance testing (UAT) process and work closely with QA to ensure product quality.

• Work closely with Product teams to define problems, generate hypotheses, and validate solutions through iterative design processes.
• Design and prototype wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity UI mockups to communicate design ideas effectively.
• Explore AI-enhanced tooling to accelerate design exploration to rapidly generate and test ideas.
• Create intuitive, visually appealing, and accessible user interfaces for our users.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of user needs, business objectives, and the education sector to create impactful design solutions.
• Plan, conduct and analyse both quantitative and qualitative user research to make data-driven design decisions.
• Translate complex workflows and requirements into simple, effective, and scalable user experiences.
• Effectively communicate design rationale, process, and decisions to stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Maintain and evolve the design system to ensure consistency and efficiency across products.

Senior Product Designer

Full-stack Engineer

• Work closely with the Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, QA Engineer, and Product Manager to help solutionise feature requests
• Lead the creation of detailed documentation for new feature developments, incorporating diagrams for comprehensive project understanding.
• Drive the development and implementation of advanced tests around new features, ensuring the highest standards of test coverage and reliability.
• Demonstrate expertise in producing well-architected, efficient, and scalable code using industry-leading design patterns and methodologies.
• Take a leadership role in code reviews and pair programming sessions, guiding and mentoring colleagues towards excellence.
• Lead and actively participate in tech-talks, workshops, and team-based learning initiatives, ensuring knowledge is disseminated effectively across the team.

Senior Product Engineer

• Contribute to the design, architecture, and implementation decisions
• Analyse existing programs and make modifications and improvements
• Implement new software solutions, websites, programs, and applications
• Write and implement clean, scalable code
• Participate in Agile sprint ceremonies such as Product Backlog refinement, Sprint

Software Developer, SAMpeople

• Handle incoming technical support requests that have been escalated from the 1st line support team.
• Verify issues are a technical problem that require either code or data fix
• Create work items on DevOps and managing tasks against them
• Debug code and databases to identify customer issues
• Implement code or database fixes to solve issues
• Escalation to the development team as necessary
• Respond to the 1st line support team when an issue has either been resolved or escalated
• Continuously improve knowledge and understanding across the various software and technologies supported by the team.
• Participate in daily stand ups to provide updates on outstanding customer issues.

Junior Software Developer – SAMpeople

• Define and guide system architecture, balancing trade-offs between speed, scalability, maintainability, and security.
• Work actively with the architecture community (ATLAS) to define processes, drive technology adoption, and share best practices across teams.
• Ensure non-functional requirements, performance, reliability, scalability, and security are addressed in all solution designs.
• Champion accountability from design through production by ensuring systems are observable and meet agreed Service Level Objectives (SLOs). Lead Root Cause Analysis when issues occur.
• Lead estimation and feasibility assessments, making sure plans are realistic and aligned with team skills and capacity.
• Contribute to structured release planning and communication, ensuring phased rollouts deliver value early (MVP-first). Support post-release reviews and retrospectives.
• Uphold coding standards and promote automated testing while embedding a quality-first culture in the development process.
• Identify and prioritise maintenance and technical debt, making its impact visible by translating it into customer and business outcomes.
• Mentor and coach engineers through feedback, knowledge sharing, and motivation. Foster alignment and help the team galvanise around technical solutions and goals.
• Work closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, QA, Designers, and other Engineers and Tech Leads to align technical direction with product strategy. Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
