Principal Transmission Planning Engineer

• Lead a strategic team responsible for identifying, tracking, and communicating emerging regulatory and reliability issues across the organization
• Ensure alignment with AEP’s positions on key industry matters and foster proactive engagement with regulatory bodies, including NERC
• Collaborate closely with internal business units, Federal Affairs, and compliance teams to influence policy development and ensure effective implementation of reliability standards
• Lead identification and tracking of emerging NERC/FERC issues and communicate impacts to all relevant Business Units

Electrical Engineer

• Performing entry level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.
• Apply theoretical concepts to solve defined problems and perform analyses under the guidance of senior engineers; assist in specific segments of more complex issues.
• Develop familiarity with essential equipment, materials, systems, and business processes; maintain acceptable solution quality in support of Real-time system reliability.
• Provide engineering support of the Reliability applications, processes, and the associated data and solution integrity.
• Support Transmission and/or Distribution State Estimator functionality and other reliability tools used in Transmission System Operations.
• Troubleshoot and analyze EMS & DMS powerflow solutions and work with various other applications used in daily reliability and operations of the electric grid.
• Oversee modeling responsibilities for an assigned area in accordance with AEP’s capital and O&M work plan.

• Identify root causes of system failures or malfunctions by examining data, conducting investigations, and utilizing analytical techniques to pinpoint protective relay issues on the Bulk Electric System
• Review oscillography and sequential event records to determine causes of operations and troubleshoot relay settings
• Apply advanced Protection and Controls knowledge across line, transformer, generator, and bus protections; apply Protection and Control design concepts
