About the role
- Own payroll for educators in the US and internal teams in US and Canada, paying c. 1500 educators weekly
- Ensure compliance with payroll deductions, filings, and reporting under US and Canadian labor and tax laws
- Respond to educator payroll inquiries including pay discrepancies, deductions, and tax withholdings
- Act as the face of finance to US schools and handle invoice queries
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support educators
- Improve and streamline processes from payroll to invoicing
- Use Xero (accounting system) and Excel for payroll, reporting and process work
Requirements
- Strong financial and payroll experience in both the US and Canada
- Experience with US payroll and tax (ideally)
- Knowledge of Canadian and US payroll deductions, filings, and tax compliance
- Experience owning payroll for large volumes (c. 1500 educators weekly)
- Experience responding to payroll-related inquiries and resolving pay discrepancies
- Experience dealing with invoicing and handling invoice queries from schools
- Excellent Excel skills
- Familiarity with Xero (helpful but not required)
- Hands-on, attention to detail, and a process improvement/automation mindset
- Strong communication skills with stakeholders at all levels
- Based in Vancouver, Canada (payroll professional in Canada with US finance experience)
