About the role
- Develop a media strategy to amplify the cause of refugees and displaced people and maximize positive media exposure for World Relief
- Ensure World Relief is positioned as an expert on global displacement and U.S. refugee and immigration issues across various media ecosystems (mainstream, Christian, conservative, etc.)
- Equip and train World Relief staff, including U.S. offices, to respond strategically to media inquiries and generate coverage
- Lead development of reports establishing World Relief’s thought leadership in coordination with Marketing, Advocacy, partners, or research consultants
- Partner with government relations to design strategic communication support that advances advocacy agendas
- Develop Executive/Subject-Matter-Expert positioning and thought leadership strategies
- Crisis preparation and management, including internal coordination to proactively identify emerging stories and manage story sourcing and databases
- Coordinate with social media/marketing to provide earned media clips for owned channels
- Maintain press page and respond promptly to media inquiries, connecting journalists to appropriate colleagues or responding on behalf of the organization
- Promote and coordinate availability of key World Relief staff for interviews; prepare and distribute press releases; write, edit and pitch Op-Eds
- Assess and escalate brand risk and partner with Executive Committee and Marketing Team on mitigation strategies
- Ensure press hits are tracked and perform periodic organizational goal syncing with comms/PR channel strategy
- Translate organizational goals to relevant messaging and identify potential brand or performance campaign concepts
- Integrated storytelling and cross-channel planning in coordination with Marketing/Content
- Support fundraising stories by providing case studies and clips; assist program teams to surface stories for press
- Assist with production of Annual Report and other externally-focused World Relief-produced reports
Requirements
- Mature and personal Christian faith
- Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
- Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
- Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
- At least 5 years’ experience working with public relations or in journalism
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Highly collaborative, team-oriented and mission-minded
- Comfortable using SharePoint for cross-team communication and document management (preferred)
- Written and verbal communication skills in Spanish (preferred)
