About the role
- Review documentation in same day surgery and observation medical records and assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT-4/HCPCS procedural codes to greatest specificity
- Abstract demographic and coding information accurately into EMR and assign correct APC
- Resolve coding edits and reminders and complete assigned work by goal date
- Query providers as needed and assist with unassigned/backlogged accounts
- Serve as mentor to new coders and assist with outpatient and emergency coding when assigned
- Comply with Wellstar policies, standards of work, and code of conduct
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years acute care same day surgery and observation coding experience
- CCS (Cert Coding Specialist) or CPC, RHIA, RHIT preferred
- Maintain a or higher accuracy in abstracting, code and DRG assignment while meeting productivity requirements
- Ability to work in a remote environment
- Computer/data entry experience
- Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word
