About the role
- Provide leadership and moral influence in the construction industry to meet current safety guidelines and reduce injuries and property damage
- Provide support and act as a resource regarding safety efforts in project field activities related to on-site field administration and technical safety requirements
- Serve as essential team member to administration, preconstruction, on-site project team, bidding operations, and WEO management from initial job setup through project completion
- Train all levels of WEO personnel on governmental (OSHA and Cal OSHA) requirements in the field and in training sessions
- Build and create strong subcontractor relationships and mentor project personnel regarding safety goals and resolutions
- Facilitate safety training and advance safety knowledge of WEO personnel and subcontractors
- Communicate safety concerns and exposures to owners and subcontractors
- Consult with subcontractors and manufacturers regarding specific equipment (roof anchors, fall protection, crane safety devices, etc.)
- Assist in pooling resources with OSHA and other agencies for incident investigations and regulatory concerns
- Investigate incidents to determine root cause, document investigations with photos/videos/witness statements, and distribute corrective actions
- Conduct project safety inspections with reports and enforce WEO safety programs for consistency among projects
- Assist in developing site-specific safety programs as required by client and Cal OSHA and define subcontractor document requirements
- Attend subcontractor pre-installation, pre-construction, contract pre-award meetings, and safety committees as requested
Requirements
- Four-year degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, or related field or minimum 4-7 years of relevant project field experience in construction safety
- Understand and effectively use company software programs, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Well-developed time management and organization skills
- Ability to work non-routine hours as needed
- Ability to analyze options and problem solve creatively, while aligning with W.E. O’Neil’s business applications and philosophy
- Ability to analyze statistical information and create charts
- Completion of OSHA / Cal OSHA 30
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Hold a current CDL certification
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of relationship building
- Understanding construction terminology, trades, project types and construction phases and steps
- Basic understanding of WEO standard subcontractor insurance requirements
- Understands the basics of Owner’s contract including AIA Forms and General Conditions
- Understands basics of WEO standard Master Subcontract Agreement “MSA” and its standard exhibits.
