About the role

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for multi-state veterinary practices, including clinics, hospitals, and support centers.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly, including regular wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and special compensation.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws, including overtime rules and veterinary industry-specific labor regulations.
  • Supervise payroll staff and provide training, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Review and reconcile payroll reports, journal entries, and benefits deductions.
  • Partner with HR and Finance to resolve payroll-related discrepancies and provide reporting as needed.
  • Administer garnishments, tax withholdings, and other mandatory deductions.
  • Serve as the point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, ensuring timely and professional resolution.
  • Ensure accurate recordkeeping in alignment with company policies, audit standards, and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with HR on compensation changes, promotions, terminations, and other employment events that affect payroll.
  • Stay updated on changing payroll regulations, veterinary industry compliance standards, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 years of payroll management experience, preferably in healthcare, veterinary services, or a multi-site organization.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws, including FLSA and multi-state wage and hour regulations.
  • Experience with payroll systems (Paylocity, ADP, Paycom, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills for supporting veterinary teams.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential preferred.
