About the role

  • Update and add payer plan information and subscriber/patient ID in practice management system prior to appointments
  • Run and work Eligibility queue report daily for assigned locations
  • Run patient aging report monthly and identify/add/update missing or incorrect insurance
  • Correct invalid payer plans on claims, change status/owner and rebill claims
  • Apply patient alerts for new insurance cards and expire alerts after 7 days
  • If inpatient/outpatient hospital appointment, notify surgery scheduler or precert team of insurance changes
  • Contact patients by phone when eligibility cannot be confirmed and send insurance info letters if no response
  • Verify or add new Medicare MBI numbers
  • Handle inbound insurance calls from locations and patients
  • Back up charge entry and payment posting; handle mail distribution, faxes, scanning, and E-doc process
  • Provide benefits estimates for patients' procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding how to interpret commercial payer, Medicaid and Medicare benefits and eligibility information
  • Good organization and strong follow through skills
  • Ability to respond to questions in a tactful and professional manner
  • Detail-oriented and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations and procedures
  • Experience with CPT-4 and ICD-10 preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and write routine correspondence
  • Ability to calculate basic figures and apply basic algebra concepts
  • Problem-solving ability with limited standardization
  • Basic computer software skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Positive, cooperative and professional attitude
