About the role

  • Deliver innovative, trend-right designs that align with the Urban Outfitters brand vision and customer.
  • Drive fabric development and road mapping.
  • Partner with Buying to identify white space opportunities and react to real-time business performance.
  • Manage execution of designs from concept through finalization, ensuring alignment with margin and quality goals.
  • Lead and approve all aspects of sample development before finalization.
  • Prepare and oversee seasonal presentation materials and conduct design presentations.
  • Analyze business metrics (e.g., Velo) to inform design decisions and assortment strategy.
  • Foster collaboration across Design, Buying, Product Development, Print, and Color teams.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports, providing goals and constructive feedback.
  • Anticipate obstacles, proactively problem-solve, and manage calendar deliverables to meet deadlines.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and alignment across teams.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador and role model, promoting teamwork, creativity, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of management experience in design.
  • Strong hand and digital sketching ability.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Treadstone and BOM maintenance.
  • Ability to independently conduct set-ups and fittings.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., MidJourney, PromeAi, ChatGPT) for creative and presentation purposes.
  • Strong understanding of fabric development, construction, and fit.
  • Ability to forecast and interpret trends relevant to the UO customer.
  • Experience mentoring and managing direct reports.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized with the ability to anticipate change, problem-solve, and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and accountable, with a strong connection to the UO customer and brand values.
