About the role

  • Report to the Director of Sponsored Projects Accounting and provide fiscal and accounting support for UTIA post-award activities
  • Analyze contracts and agreements for spending restrictions, reporting deadlines, payment request information and liability
  • Create and maintain accounts in the university's financial system throughout the life of projects
  • Coordinate activities with other campuses or units on joint projects
  • Analyze expenditures by interpreting and applying fiscal regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance with federal, state and university requirements
  • Process payment requests to agencies and manage letter of credit draws using agency websites
  • Prepare and certify financial reports for sponsors and ensure reconciliation to the university ledger
  • Monitor subcontract financial reports and manage fiscal aspects of subawards
  • Assist in training business managers, faculty, and research staff and help develop policies/procedures to reduce financial risk
  • Close projects by processing final financial, inventory, patent and equipment reports
  • Work with faculty and business managers on budget reviews, execute budget changes, and monitor expenditure overages
  • Assist in audit and compliance activities, initiate corrective actions, and interact with sponsoring agencies on financial matters
  • Enter and reconcile accounts receivable, manage collections and follow-up on outstanding payment requests, coordinate uncollected debts with academic offices and general counsel
  • Monitor and manage approximately $40 million in receivables to maximize the university's cash flow

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, or similar field of study
  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Ability to exercise autonomy in financial management and compliance oversight activities
  • Sound analytical and decision-making skills
  • Effective use of MS Office Suite products
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, or business
  • Preferred: Current experience in sponsored projects accounting
  • Preferred: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and OMB Uniform Guidance
  • Preferred: Experience with University DASH ERP system and Huron research suite
  • Preferred: Advanced spreadsheet and data management/analysis skills
  • Preferred: Ability to solve complex problems and to resolve issues
  • Preferred: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Preferred: Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Preferred: Ability to interact with internal and external contacts in a professional manner and exhibit strong interpersonal skills
