About the role
- Provide clinical leadership and oversight for the Women's Health department, reporting to the Chief Medical Officer.
- Supervise, mentor, coach, and develop clinicians; manage peer review and performance reviews for direct reports.
- Manage administrative responsibilities: integrate and coordinate clinical services, schedule and conduct departmental staff meetings, orient and mentor new providers.
- Utilize department and individual-specific data and dashboards to guide operational and clinical excellence; develop educational programming.
- Participate in recruitment, hiring, corrective action counseling, and terminations as needed.
- Support Physicians and NP/PA/CNM’s in accurate and timely completion of documentation and follow-up tasks.
- Assume clinical responsibility with the Chief Medical Officer and provide regular reporting; facilitate monthly department meetings aligned with organizational mission.
- Foster quality initiatives, develop clinical pathways to reduce unwarranted practice variation, and remove barriers to achieving quality medical care.
- Perform health assessments, order/perform diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, evaluate psychosocial/family aspects, diagnose common acute and chronic conditions, and provide follow-up care.
- Provide direct clinical medical services in the board certified/eligible medical specialty, adhering to standards and health center protocols.
- Provide leadership, vision, and direction of the department; assist in formulation or revision of medical program/clinical services policies and protocols.
- Assist in design, implementation, and evaluation of clinical programs; plan and supervise new technologies and programs; collaborate with other departments for integration of services.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer or Chief Executive Officer; may assume CMO responsibilities on an interim basis when directed.
Requirements
- Must have license as an NP, CNM or PA, and board certification or eligibility within discipline required.
- Current, valid license to practice medicine in the State of California, including DEA license (if applicable) and CPR required.
- Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience required.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience supervising providers and other clinical staff preferred.
- Experience in underserved communities or in a community health center setting preferred.
- Proficiency in clinical practice within the specified medical specialty.
- For MDs or DOs, a willingness to collaborate with and provide supervision to NP/PA/CNM providers as required.
- Ability to travel to designated locations as required by supervisor.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team, in collaborative settings, required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Understands and is committed to maintaining highest level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to staff and build the trust and respect of patients, staff, colleagues, and external contacts.
- Commitment to remaining up-to-date with evidence-based, best practices in internal medicine and community-based medicine
- Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Ability to utilize computer technology preferred, and willingness to develop and adapt to the evolving technological requirements of modern medical health center practices required.
- Demonstrates flexibility regarding job duties and assignments.
