About the role
- Guide and execute campaigns to advance Environment America’s federal policy goals in Washington, DC.
- Develop and advance federal policy agenda, including campaigns to recover America’s wildlife, make waterways safe for swimming and reduce plastic pollution.
- Lobby Congress and the federal government on policy priorities; advocate and persuade decision makers; develop relationships with legislators and staff across the aisle.
- Build and run coalitions, reach out to organizations and constituency groups; run weekly or monthly coalition meetings.
- Secure media coverage: write press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor; meet reporters; hold press events; maintain active social media presence.
- Fundraise from foundations and individual donors to support the program.
- Recruit, hire and manage advocates and interns; build and lead the team.
Requirements
- Passionate about the environment and using the power of grassroots organizing to win campaigns.
- A campaign advocate, grassroots organizer, lobbyist or legislative staffer or with at least 5 years of experience.
- An effective communicator with excellent writing and public speaking skills.
- Experience getting traditional and digital media coverage in previous work is a plus.
- Creative and effective at solving complex problems; a strategic thinker who can take advantage of new opportunities.
- A team leader with a track record of recruiting people and improving performance, or the skills to do so.
- Willing and interested in working with people who think differently than you in order to build broad support for our campaigns.
- Well-organized and able to make plans for long-term success, across multiple priorities.
- A hard worker, willing to spend hours calling activists or monitoring middle-of-the-night Senate votes to win your campaigns.
