About the role

  • Manage data quality for the cancer registry and train staff on quality standards
  • Regularly audit cases for quality purposes and follow up with staff on areas for improvement
  • Oversee new and initial training for registry staff
  • Manage a team of ODS-certified and non-certified staff, monitoring workflow, performance and productivity
  • Interview, hire, train and supervise staff, including administering performance reviews
  • Maintain expertise in abstraction by abstracting, reviewing, synthesizing and summarizing clinical information
  • Independently code patient abstracts according to oncology standard setter coding requirements (American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and Ohio Cancer Incidence Surveillance System)
  • Produce complete, timely, high-quality data to meet reporting and accreditation requirements and support OSUCCC-James operational, research, quality and finance areas
  • Aggregate data for state and national reporting (cancer incidence, mortality, etc.)

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration or equivalent field
  • 3 years of relevant experience required
  • 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Experience managing data quality for a cancer registry and training staff on quality standards
  • Experience auditing cases and following up with staff on areas for improvement
  • Experience abstracting, reviewing, synthesizing, and summarizing clinical information
  • Ability to independently code patient abstracts according to American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and Ohio Cancer Incidence Surveillance System reporting requirements
  • Experience interviewing, hiring, training, supervising staff and administering performance reviews
  • Experience managing ODS-certified and non-certified staff and monitoring workflow, performance, and productivity
  • Final candidates subject to background check; drug screen or physical may be required
