About the role
- Shape technology strategy and define technical roadmap aligned to company goals
- Lead, mentor, and coach engineering managers and senior engineers; build progression pathways
- Own recruitment, retention, and career development across the engineering team
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, secure, scalable, and reliable software
- Implement and champion best practices in agile development, CI/CD, testing, and release management
- Partner with Product and Design leadership to prioritise work and deliver against company OKRs
- Define and track engineering KPIs (velocity, quality, uptime, cost efficiency)
- Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and tooling decisions
- Embed resilience and security into platform and delivery
- Lead exploration and responsible adoption of AI technologies to drive innovation and efficiency
- Provide transparency and confidence to executive team and stakeholders on progress and priorities
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience leading and scaling engineering teams, including managing managers and senior engineers
- Demonstrable experience in a product-led environment working closely with Product and Design
- Background in building and scaling consumer-facing digital products with focus on usability, performance, and trust
- Strong communicator with ability to set expectations, influence stakeholders, and work cross-functionally
- Experience in online marketplaces or transactional platforms (desirable)
- Track record of implementing engineering best practices (agile, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring)
- Experience balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical investments (scalability, resilience, security)
- Proven ability to recruit, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams and create clear career paths
- Familiarity with security and compliance requirements for protecting platforms, data, and customers
- Commercial awareness, experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and ROI from tooling/technology choices
