About the role
- Direct and manage all aspects of a varied commercial litigation portfolio, including investigation, pleadings and discovery through the pre-trial, trial, settlement and appeal processes
- Effectively direct and manage outside counsel
- Work collaboratively within the Legal Department (including Compliance, Government Affairs and Communications colleagues), as well as business stakeholders
- Evaluate financial impact and litigation funding options relevant to litigation disputes
- Provide proactive, solution-oriented advice and counseling to support and protect business goals and objectives in connection with pre-litigation disputes
- Employ highly polished and effective communication, listening, and writing skills, with a focus on interaction with and reporting to senior managers and executive leadership within a global and matrixed organization
- Participate in and contribute positively to the Cigna Legal community
Requirements
- J.D. and active state bar membership(s) is required
- Minimum of 7+years of litigation experience at a top firm, with the federal government, and/or in-house, preferably addressing plaintiff-side or affirmative litigation
- Experience representing health insurance or pharmacy benefit management companies
- Strong people skills

- Ability to present complex legal issues to non-lawyers
