About the role
- Own the vision, strategy, and execution of Spotify’s centralized design system
- Set strategic direction, roadmap, and priorities to meet needs across consumer, B2B, and internal products
- Drive AI innovation: integrate generative design, automation, and intelligent components
- Grow, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, and design ops specialists
- Build strong relationships with product, engineering, and business partners to ensure adoption and alignment
- Oversee governance, documentation, and contribution models to maintain quality, accessibility, and scalability
- Define targets and success metrics, gather feedback across R&D, and iterate to improve system effectiveness
- Evangelize the design system through workshops, presentations, and internal documentation
Requirements
- Significant experience managing and scaling design systems, ideally centralized for large-scale consumer and/or enterprise products
- Deep expertise in design principles, UX/UI standards, accessibility, and design operations
- Demonstrated experience integrating AI, automation, or machine learning into design systems or workflows
- Strong leadership skills with experience building and mentoring high-performing, cross-functional teams
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, from designers and engineers to product and business leads
- Proficiency with modern design, prototyping, and documentation tools; familiarity with front-end frameworks
- Passion for fostering an inclusive and innovative design culture
- Background in Design, Product, or Engineering (acceptable)
