About the role
- Build the operating model: define business drivers and model cash inflows and outflows on a forward-looking basis
- Make strategic recommendations on hiring, fundraising, and key business metrics
- Communicate with investors during quarterly board meetings and ad hoc data requests
- Fundraise from new venture capitalists and tell the financial story with co-founders
- Hold teams accountable to their metrics and ensure accurate calculation and visibility
- Close the books: ensure accurate and timely P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements; lead investor-mandated audits
- Ensure compliance: pay income, payroll, and other taxes; file franchise fees, licenses, and required forms
- Own people strategy: define and publish compensation framework (salary, commission, equity, benefits)
- Build employer brand and recruiting system: attract, onboard, measure performance, and empower managers
- Handle HR issues with outside legal counsel and hiring managers; ensure compliance with relevant laws
Requirements
- 5-10 years in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, consulting, and/or strategic finance at a startup beyond Series A
- Honest & trustworthy; handle sensitive company and personal information responsibly
- Financial modeling skills (modeling future finances of a company)
- Accounting skills: debits and credits, income statement / balance sheet / cash flow statement, revenue recognition
- HR skills: recruiting (writing JDs, sourcing/interviewing), managing (OKRs, PIPs, performance reviews), and compensation (salary, equity, medical/dental/vision, fringe benefits)
- Based in the Bay Area and able to be in-person generally four days per week in Redwood City
- Detail-oriented

- (Nice-to-have) Experience building a finance team
- (Nice-to-have) Technical degree (math, computer science, or statistics)
- (Nice-to-have) MBA or formal financial licensing (eg CPA)
