About the role
- Complete an ESA specific training program
- Perform ESA services primarily for external suppliers located both domestically and internationally
- Assess melting/billet conversion practices and, to a lesser extent, part forging processes for compliance to product definition data and engineering design intent
- Define approval plans and disposition requests for initial approvals, changes and inadvertent variations
- Perform on-site witnessing of processes
- Review processing documentation and process simulations
- Analyze mechanical test data and metallurgical findings
- Use statistical tools to determine process capability
- Travel periodically to supplier sites as required
Requirements
- BS in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and minimum 8 years experience
- An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
- Security Clearance: None/Not Required
- This position will require periodic travel
- Experience with melting and conversion methods (preferred)
- Knowledge of large structural forgings and/or rolled ring forgings (preferred)
- Knowledge of associated shop practices, alloy working methods and tooling (preferred)
- Nickel and titanium metallurgy (preferred)
- Metallurgical evaluation methods (preferred)
- Mechanical property testing techniques (preferred)
- Heat treatment (preferred)
- Process simulations and statistical evaluation techniques (preferred)
- Understanding of P&W’s design, manufacturing and quality systems, or experience with the ESA approval process (a plus)
- Ability to work well in a fast paced production type environment
- Ability to rapidly react to business needs
- Must be able to work in a self-directed manner
- Willing to occasionally provide coverage during off-hours, as business demands dictate
